The apartment

The bits worth knowing once you're inside.

Comfort

Heating & hot water

The heating runs on a schedule, set to a comfortable temperature. Too hot or cold? Adjust the smart thermostat on the wall by the kitchen entrance. Hot water is always on.

Laundry, bedding & extras

Spare pillows, blankets, a fan and a portable heater are in the sliding wardrobe in the main bedroom — help yourself. Used towels can be left on the bathroom floor when you leave.

Kitchen basics

Coffee, biscuits and a few condiments are on us — help yourself. Please leave the kitchen as you found it, especially after anything messy.

Tap water

Scottish tap water is among the best in the world. Drink it straight from the cold tap — no filter needed.

Living

TV & streaming

Every TV has an Amazon Firestick already signed in — Netflix, YouTube and BBC iPlayer are all there. TVs also pick up live UK channels via the aerial, but the Firestick is more reliable on the 1Gb fibre.

Windows

Window handles can be tricky. Rotate sideways to open from the side. Rotate all the way up for a small top-vent opening — the best position for fresh air.

Hairdryer & iron

Hairdryer is in the dresser drawers in the main bedroom. Iron is in the main sliding wardrobe.

Bike storage

Leave a bike outside the front door or downstairs in the entry, as long as it isn't blocking anyone's access.

Good to know

Bins & recycling

Please recycle as much as possible — it's the law in Scotland. General waste: black bin labelled 84 at the rear, next to the key safe. Glass: black bins with purple lids at the front entrance. Metal, plastic & cardboard: the large recycling area at the front — follow the path left, past the secondary car park, between the car park and the river.

Boiler, fuse box & alarms

Boiler — in the kitchen cupboard; please don't change anything, heating is via the wall thermostat. Fuse box, water and gas stop-taps — first cupboard on the left in the hallway as you come in. Interlinked smoke & CO alarms run throughout the flat.

Fire extinguisher

In the kitchen, on the right next to the sink. In any serious emergency, leave the flat first and call 999 immediately.

House rules

No smoking inside the flat or on the communal stairs. No late-night parties. No pets, please. Quiet hours are 11pm–7am — the building shares a stairwell and sound carries, so a little consideration goes a long way.
